Born in 1945 in the hills of Chin State, Pu Thang Lian Pau is considered a living treasure of Zomi musical traditions. His remarkable memory has preserved hundreds of folk songs, including many that might otherwise have been lost to time.
After immigrating to the United States in 1998, he became one of the founding members of ZOMUS, dedicated to teaching traditional vocal techniques to younger generations and documenting the rich musical heritage of the Zomi people.
His distinctive voice, characterized by its resonant depth and masterful control of traditional ornamentation techniques, is immediately recognizable to Zomi listeners. He specializes in narrative folk songs that recount historical events, epic tales, and cultural values.
In 2015, he was recognized with ZOMUS's Lifetime Achievement Award for his extraordinary contributions to preserving Zomi musical heritage in the diaspora. His recordings form a cornerstone of the ZOMUS Digital Archive Project.
